Storm over the Great Ocean Highway - oil on canvas - 24x30"

Australia was an amazing country to visit last year. Nature seemed so powerful and untamed. On the way to Twelve Apostles, the weather threatened with a storm, but ended up just a little shower. The views were just unbelievable.
In my painting I attempted to express the force of the waves, the dynamics of the sky and ocean.

Purple mountains - oil on panel - 5x5"

Back home to baylands and color. It is slightly disorienting to come back from a vacation. First there is a lot of excitement and after that suddenly the doubt sets in and it becomes hard to pick up brush. This is my safe zone painting. I feel at home here.

Wine in Ubeda - oil on canvas - 12x16"

Coming home from trip to southern Spain, I miss tapas and wonderful spanish wine. So to cheer myself up, I painted it. It will forever remind me of the old towns, squares, tapa bars and history that is so amazing it this beautiful country.

Afternoon - oil on canvas - 30x30"

Waves, water, sun, beach and walk on the sand with one you love! That is my kind of afternoon. I love to paint couples. There is not anything more wonderful, challenging and changing than relationships. I want to capture the blissful times, when there is no worry, just you and me and sound of waves and time stands still.

Waves - oil on six 6x6" panels

This was an experiment. And I have to still resolve and finish the installation. I wanted to do a modular painting, that could hang in different groupings. you could hang it together next to each other or separate some or hang some on another wall. I think I will attempt a larger version, when I have time.

Dancing Mountains - oil on canvas - 20x20"

All the detail in the Old Town painting was just too much and I wanted to do something fun. Something playful and simple. Never believe if someone says that abstract painting is easy. I was repainting and repainting this so many times, it seems unbelievable. And at the end I looked at it and finalized the painting as a landscape. The process is always unpredictable.

Old Town - oil on canvas - 30x24"

Moody view of the old town side of the river Vltava in Prague. I was intrigued by the sky and the neutral hues in the buildings. I love the colors and i was trying to preserve as much of the underpainting as I could. It is so tempting to cover it all up.

Woman in Black - oil on canvas - 18x24"

I took a picture of a friend of mine long time ago. She belongs to a networking group that was encouraging me to start painting. I love Lynn's sense of style and inextinguishable zest for life. It was fun to challenge myself with a portrait. There is always so much more to learn.

Palm Trees - oil on canvas - 30x24"

Palm trees always remind me how lucky I am to live where I live. And how much I like ocean and warm weather and sound of palm fronds in the wind. I took this picture of view from the restaurant window in La Jolla and painted it to always remind me of the smell of the ocean and the sound of waves and palm trees.

Reaching - oil on panel - 12x16"

The whole painting started as an attempt for abstract painting and as I said before, I have to have some connection to reality. I wanted to communicate, that I am reaching and trying to streach myself and my perceptions, but I still hold onto reality. Who knows where will this reaching take me.

Prague Castle - oil on canvas - 18x24"

I was going for color and simplified shapes. I don't really think I will ever get to pure abstract painting, but I love to play with pushing the reality a bit. Clouds, water, and color can be so much fun.

Prague Bridges - oil on canvas - 20x20"

This was a fun project to paint my home town. As always painting the sky was so much exciting, but I had to paint also all the buildings. That was more challenging. But as any other painting, I learned something new.

Prague Bridges - oil on canvas - 20x20"

Prague river Vltava (Moldau) is inseparable part of the city. It was always part of any important happening in the history and it is part of the beautiful views of the city. It changes with seasons and with the light and weather. It is never the same, offering ever changing backdrop to the Old Town and the Castle.

Winter - oil on canvas - 18x24"

It seems to happen every time I paint some strong colorful painting, I seem to search for balance in painting a quiet and subdued painting. Winter has just soft colors and colorful shadows. I just wanted to whisper, that this has its own beauty.

Blue Mountains - oil on canvas - 24x18"

Color and clouds, is how I would describe this painting. Clouds give me so much freedom and they are so playful and fun. But color can be so powerful and so much emotion. I chose dramatic blue complemented with soothing yellows and ochres.

Alone - oil on panel - 12x16"

After reading book Girl on the Train, I had a haunting image on my mind. I wanted to express the disorienting confusion and sense of abandonment that the book left me with.  I used technique, I usually use for my underpaintings. I dripped varnish over my almost finished painting. It allowed me to create a rainy landscape with the girl undecidedly standing there without knowing what the next step is.

Walk - oil on canvas - 20x20"

February is coming and I would like to enter an art competition in Pacific Art League. The theme for the show is LOVE. So here I go. I love the seaside scenes and dramatic clouds, clouds that you see over the Pacific. I did my usual under paint and after that had fun with blues and whites, there are some other colors too, but blue and white with little touch of purple here and there make me really happy. I was born in landlocked country, but I always loved ocean and sea. The couple is quietly walkino and listening to the waves. My kind of walk :)

Christmas Ornaments - oil on canvas

In the Art Center where is my studio we decorated our Christmas tree with paintings. Here are my contributions.
I wanted to do one winter scene to remember winter back home in Czech,
one painting is my favorite ocean in California and
the last is to show how much I love all the people that are part of my life.
